Student's Journey as a Veterinarian Intern

Tuesday, July 23, 2024

Ayeesha Goldsboro is a recent graduate from The Graham School who was granted the opportunity to complete a Veterinarian Internship through Nationwide Children’s Hospital this summer. Ayeesha is a fur-vid lover of all animals and has always wanted to work in the veterinary industry. Her walkabout at The Graham School had her shadowing at Real Dog Training in Gahanna, and she loved every minute of it - including the bus ride there and back that involved a transfer each way! Now that is commitment!

The program this summer indeed involves animals, but they’re lab animals. Originally, she pictured an internship that would have her placed in a veterinarian office where she could experience and observe how pets are handled, helped, and healed. When she learned about the laboratory nature of this program, she didn’t see it as a disappointment but rather an opportunity. She saw it as a way to see a new facet of animal care, and she has appreciated being exposed to everything they do at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute, including cleaning cages and even drawing blood. Due to the sensitive nature of the research, Ayeesha was only able to offer a tour of the grounds and quick stop at her cubicle and the cafeteria.

Ayeesha plans to use this internship as a springboard for continuing on the path to veterinary practices, including pursuing the vet tech program at Columbus State Community College. Good luck to you, Ayeesha!
