In an exciting session of civic engagement, the youth of Groveport-Madison took a proactive step in understanding local governance by attending a session with State Representative, Latyna Humphrey.
Who is Latyna Humphrey in our community?
She has dedicated her career to uplifting people in poverty and making our community more equitable for everyone. Community service is not new to Rep. Humphrey as she helped with aid during the Flint Water Crisis. There, she volunteered to help with data entry for the American Red Cross and served at local food kitchens. This experience led her to get involved here in Columbus with local organizations such as the YWCA, YMCA, Central Ohio Young Black Democrats, NAACP-Columbus and the Franklin County Democratic Party where she serves as Secretary of the Central Committee.
Representative Humphrey, a prominent figure in our community, generously shared insights into her role, the needs of our community, and the journey that led to her success today. During the session, the young participants had the opportunity to actively interact with Representative Humphrey, posing questions and receiving live feedback. This interactive exchange provided invaluable firsthand knowledge about the workings of government and the importance of active participation in shaping our collective future.
The event not only served as an educational experience but also inspired and empowered our youth to become more engaged citizens, equipped with the knowledge and understanding necessary to contribute meaningfully to our community.
Stay tuned for more updates on community engagement initiatives and opportunities for involvement!
