Groveport Madison High School students were able to engage in a Social Emotional Learning focused baking class with Kitchen of Life. The theme of this class was Belonging. Discussion was had to understand what did belonging mean to them and if they felt that they belonged to something in their life. In baking, and life we mix "ingredients" together to make something we didn't know we were capable of.
This discussion opened conversations amongst themselves and the volunteers during the baking portion. The students were paired up with someone that they may have not known and worked on communication skills when it came to instructions and baking.
By the end of the session new friends were made and new recipes were tried. Students were hesitant to make Zucchini muffins to later learn after tasting them that it was a recipe they wanted to make at home. Many students expressed how fun this trip was and loved having the opportunity.
