Work Readiness Cohort

Week 3 Recap

This week, our young adults:

  • partnered with our CDL group to hear from a guest speaker from BMI Federal Credit Union;

  • learned about the importance of having a 401k, and other forms of retirement savings;

  • heard about the importance of having and keeping money in their community;

  • gained an understanding of what a credit score is and its importance; and

  • had the opportunity to open an account.

LTWLA Youth Visit FST Logistics

Youth had the pleasure of visiting FST Logistics for their FSTFest, touring their warehouse facility and meeting the President and CEO of the company. Those interested in sales had the opportunity to meet the Director of Marketing and were afforded a chance to be interviewed for their sales role. Youth were able to engage with current employees and pick their brains to get insight on the work culture. Five young adults applied or showed interest in the company, and are scheduled to have interviews the following week!

Congratulations to our Leader of the Week - Shemar Vidales!

Shemar is a certified welder and came to this program to explore different opportunities. He has transitioned from CDL to Work Readiness, and has made his presence as a leader known. Shemar is very interactive in the classroom, and applied to FST during the trip applied, successfully securing an interview.

He said his motivation is his six-month old daughter, who is the reason he gets up in the morning and his reason for trying to make something of every opportunity. Congratulations Shemar! We are proud and excited to see what’s next for him.
