Lead The Way students from West High School recently embarked on an educational trip to Highbanks Park in Worthington, Ohio, organized by Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District. There, they engaged in hands-on learning about water quality and the ecosystems within local rivers.
The students waded into the water to uncover various microbiomes, which helped them assess water quality based on specific point levels. Their findings revealed excellent water conditions, contributing to the waterways that flow into the Ohio River, the Mississippi River, and ultimately the Gulf of Mexico.
With curiosity and enthusiasm, students eagerly examined crawfish and other aquatic creatures, demonstrating their passion for environmental science. Their engagement impressed the instructors, who invited them to return in the spring for further exploration.
Next up, the students will visit the Del-Co water treatment plant to learn about the filtration processes that deliver clean drinking water. This hands-on experience not only deepens their understanding of environmental conservation but also inspires them to protect the planet's vital resources.
Special thanks to FSWCD and West High School for your partnership!
